Conducting
Since arriving in the DC area ten years ago, Dr. Giarusso has held directorships with three area choruses. He has established a reputation as a transformational leader, guiding organizations through major periods of artistic and administrative growth.
His work as a conductor has been enriched by wide-ranging experience as a professional singer. As a singing conductor who has worked extensively with volunteer ensembles of varying sizes and abilities, Dr. Giarusso is keenly aware of the musical, mental, and physical challenges that choral singers are likely to encounter. In addressing these issues, he offers guidance that is both specific and supportive. Through a balance of effective vocal modeling, efficient rehearsal technique, and empowering leadership, he strives to cultivate an atmosphere in which singers can realize their fullest potential as musicians and find true joy in their music-making.
